Tips for Smooth Holiday Travel

The holidays are a special time to connect with family and friends, and for many, that involves travel. To help make your journey a little easier, PPMD has gathered some helpful travel tips and resources!

Things to Keep in Mind When Traveling:

  • Keep your care team’s contact information easily accessible, including after hours and emergency numbers.
  • Bring all the supplies and equipment you rely on each day. Pack portable batteries for items like your BiPAP or power wheelchair, just in case of travel delays or in areas with unreliable power.
  • Have PPMD’s emergency care information on hand. If you need to order emergency wheelchair or wallet cards, visit our Support Materials page.
  • Bring a copy of the PJ Nicholoff Steroid Protocol in case of an emergency (including illness or injury) requiring stress-dose steroids.
  • Pack all necessary medications—bring enough for your entire trip plus a few extra days in case of delays.
  • If any medications require refrigeration, bring ziplock bags and ice packs. For longer trips, plan to refresh ice as needed, and check ahead to confirm your hotel or accommodations have a refrigerator available.
  • Make sure all prescription refills are completed before you travel.
  • Research local healthcare facilities and emergency services at your destination and along the way if you’re driving.
  • Get any recommended annual vaccines prior to traveling.

From all of us at PPMD, best wishes for a safe, healthy, and happy holiday season!
