CureDuchenne Fuerza 2025, hosted by the CureDuchenne International Program on October 25, 2025, brought together more than 400 attendees with the goal of improving care for individuals with Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophy. Over 200 participants joined in person in Mexico City and another 200 joined virtually from across Mexico and nine other countries.
This international conference served as a critical platform for education, collaboration, and community empowerment across the Spanish-speaking Duchenne ecosystem. Delivering the program in Spanish made the content truly accessible, helping families and clinicians gain knowledge and confidence in their own language.

Advancing Duchenne Care Across Mexico
Presented in partnership with leading Mexican advocacy organizations, clinicians, and researchers, CureDuchenne Fuerza 2025 focused on:
- Advancing multidisciplinary standards of care for Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD)
- Expanding understanding of genetic information and family education
- Highlighting emerging therapies and translational research
Key sessions featured expert panels with neurology, cardiology, pulmonary care, and hands-on demonstrations in physical therapy, and rehabilitation strategies. Attendees engaged directly with physicians in small-group breakouts, gaining practical tools to strengthen care for individuals with DMD and Becker muscular dystrophy (BMD).

Strategic Collaboration with the National Institute of Rehabilitation (INR), Mexico City
As part of CureDuchenne’s ongoing global strategy to build care infrastructure, the team visited the National Institute of Rehabilitation (INR) in Mexico City, the country’s leading neuromuscular center treating the highest number of Duchenne and Becker patients nationwide.
The visit included a strategic meeting with Dr. Pineda Villaseñor, Director General, and Dr. Álvaro Lemeli Rivas, Medical Director, to align on shared goals around capacity-building, patient outreach, resources, and care access.
A guided tour of INR’s Neuromuscular Clinic, led by Dr. Rosa Elena Escobar, Dr. Jimena Quinzanos, and Dr. Coronado Zarco, showcased a full spectrum of care services, including:
- Advanced diagnostics and lab services
- Infusion therapy
- Physical and occupational therapy
- Pulmonology and cardiology clinics
This collaboration further validated the value of multidisciplinary, Spanish-language care models in improving health outcomes for Duchenne families across the region.

Stories of Strength and Global Solidarity
For many families, the event was more than an educational opportunity — it was a life-changing experience.
As Duchenne parent Flor Hernández shared:
“Parents called me after the event to express how grateful they were that this was held in Mexico City. They now feel less alone in this fight against Duchenne. It was a day full of emotion, information, and motivation that gives us strength to keep going.”
From city to city, across language and borders, CureDuchenne Fuerza 2025 highlighted the global power of knowledge, connection, and shared purpose.
