Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony Marks a Major Step Forward in Expanding Access to Advanced Care and Cutting-Edge Treatment for Families Across Southern California
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (September 15, 2025) – CureDuchenne and Rady Children’s Health officially dedicated the CureDuchenne Clinic within the Neuromuscular Program at Rady Children’s Health Orange County with a ribbon-cutting ceremony held during Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Month. This milestone marks a significant step forward in delivering cutting-edge care and support for families affected by Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophy in Southern California and beyond.
The event brought together families, healthcare providers, and community leaders to commemorate the landmark partnership between CureDuchenne, a global leader in Duchenne muscular dystrophy research and care headquartered in Newport Beach, and Rady Children’s Health, a premier pediatric healthcare system uniting the trusted expertise of CHOC and Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego. Attendees had the opportunity to meet the multidisciplinary care team and learn more about the comprehensive services available through the clinic, which are critical for children living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a life-limiting, progressive neuromuscular disease that affects around 15,000 individuals in the United States and has no cure.
CureDuchenne has granted Rady Children’s nearly $1.5 million over three years to fund the CureDuchenne Clinic, which will expand Rady Children’s neuromuscular program and:
- Accelerate access to cutting-edge and emerging treatments
- Expand participation in clinical trials and research initiatives
- Improve standards of care for Southern California’s diverse patient population
- Address health inequities, including prioritizing the special concerns of low-income families
By bringing high-quality, specialized care closer to home, the CureDuchenne Clinic will also significantly reduce the burden of travel for families across the region, improve access to life-changing resources, and enhance both quality of life and long-term outcomes for patients.
“Duchenne is a complex disease that requires comprehensive care from an experienced team and access to the latest cutting-edge treatments and clinical trials. This partnership with the leading experts at Rady Children’s reflects our commitment to ensuring children with Duchenne have high-quality, comprehensive care, close to home,” said Debra Miller, CureDuchenne co-founder and CEO.
“At Rady Children’s Health, we’re committed to providing the highest level of care to children facing complex, life-threatening conditions,” said Dr. John Crawford, medical director, neurology, and co-medical director, Neuroscience Institute at Rady Children’s Health Orange County. “This clinic exemplifies the power of collaboration in advancing innovative, patient-centered care for those living with Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophy.”
With Rady Children’s world-class medical expertise and CureDuchenne’s unwavering focus on accelerating therapy development, the new clinic is poised to deliver exceptional care and help individuals with Duchenne live longer, stronger lives.
